Did not stay and wouldn’t want to. Rented a bike twice and staff are pretty cold, unattentive and clearly from out of town and not local. Seems to be all about the cash. 6000 yen a night per person for a minshuku is a joke and with that kind of moody service, it certainly is.
I didnt stay at their guesthouse but i joined the half day tour going to the pinaisaara waterfall. It was amazing and our tour guide Ken is a very nice and fun man, he could speak fluent English and he told us lots of information about the wetland. He is a very attentive person who always told us to mind our head and our steps when we were walking in the forest and provided help when it was in need. The guesthouse looked very tidy and nice and i would definitely stay here and join their tour next time i go ishigaki.
On the plus side: very comfortable rooms, brand new (stayed in the newly built annex) and well designed with a nice shower/bath/toilet area, nice front deck, and free laundry machines. Also, delicious fresh pineapple juice. On the minus side: expensive for what it is, feels a bit sterile/no character and staff/management come off as stingy and inflexible.
A comfy spot in Iriomote. Nice staff and a friendly atmosphere to the whole place. It has a handy little convenience store and organises tours and trips around the island and reefs. Best to take the ferry to the north port however if that ferry is cancelled the bus from the south port can drop you almost at the door (or right at the door if you are lucky).
What a nice place. It is the Guesthouse Mariudo.
I took the ferry to the southern port (north was closed) and the ferry offers a bus north. They will stop after about 35 minutes and it's only a short walk from there.
I believe they will pick you up if you take a ferry to the north port.
The team running Mariudo are an incredible bunch of friendly and hard-working people, they made a great experience for us from the great meals to the boat tours. Look forward to coming back!
The snorkeling tour to Okuiriomote was the best tour I’ve done. The locations we visited were so beautiful. The staff was friendly and helpful as well.
Very nice service for snorkelling !
